Name: Kevin Lum

DJ Name: DJ Kevin

Favorite Genre: All EDM

What are some of your hobbies/interests?

Well clearly I really love music. I write and produce my own songs for fun too. When you create the music and play it for someone, you realize it’s really all just energy. My second passion is for personal development: Tony Robbins, Abraham Hicks, Law of Attraction, NLP and anything else that will help you become the best. I’m a competitive video game player too lol.

Why did you become a DJ?

I enjoy making people happy! I discovered DJing when I was an intern at Sight & Sound in 2009 and found out I enjoy. I assisted the team in rocking these huge events and I wanted to learn more. After graduating from The Art Institute of Las Vegas, I received my Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Audio Production and decided to become a full-time entertainer. Now I’m on a quest to surpass Tiesto.

What’s important to you about working at Sight & Sound Events?

Having fun! How often do you meet someone who loves what they do? Every day is an adventure and I enjoy building energy with my clients. Sight & Sound Events is a fun company for fun people, I’m one of them!

What’s your favorite song to play at a wedding and why?

Michael Jackson - “Billie Jean”. It’s amazes me everytime to watch people try to moonwalk. Every person gets to enjoy the spotlight as they make their attempts at being a pop star lol.

What general advice would you give a couple preparing for their wedding?

Build good trust and listen to each other’s hearts. The celebration isn’t just about you, it’s about the union of your friends and family too. Your worlds are officially becoming one. Agree on everything where possible! Don’t let this day not be the best day of your life. Feel good the whole way through the planning process and your results will be spectacular!

What should every couple know before meeting with their wedding DJ?

Love your DJ like you’d love your own family member. If not, it’s not the right fit Cinderella. We’re in attendance at YOUR wedding. There’s certain people you didn’t invite to your big night because they don’t mix well. Make sure you hit it off with your DJ. They’re the most integral part of your night. Did you care to get to know your DJ? If you hadn’t even bothered to know who I am as a person, this isn’t going to work. Weddings are way too personal of an experience to just invite some random DJ guy. My couples are an extension of myself. Let that idea sink in for a bit.

What has been your most memorable event moment thus far?

There are way too many good nights to highlight just one. I like to think of my DJ sets like unicorns. You’re lucky to have seen one in your lifetime. If you remembered it in great detail, you must have been too focused on the small stuff rather than just breathing in all of its big beautiful glory. I’ve had many unicorns and they are all unique in their own way that was right for their moment.

Describe your DJ style?

Rave.

With every tune I play I mix a piece of my soul into the room. I take a little bit of this, I mix a little bit of that, and before you know it everyone is dancing in the moonlight! I’m flexible and fluent in all genres of music. Most importantly I’m reading my crowd to gauge their reactions. I’m learning quickly about who I’m working with and what they like.

I’m mixing music so Sarah the CEO of the company can can dance with Johnny from Janitorial services. I mix in some older stuff so Grandma can get up and feel like she’s 20 again. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, it doesn’t matter how old you are, or who you’re with. We all speak one universal language and that language is music. It brings me big joy when I can see people on my dance floor bond in ways they never knew they could.

When I play music I’m giving it everything I got. Every song is handpicked to create a unique experience in real time. I’m anticipating the perfect moment when all hands are in the air and you simply just let loose. You let it all go! You forget who you were before you got on the dance floor, and all you know now is you got to move it. You gotta shake it. You gotta dance your freakin’ butt off!

I won’t let you remember when the last song ended and the new one began. You’re in the zone. We’re here, and we’re on this rollercoaster together. Reach your peak, throw your hands up, and get down!
